Day 03: Muscat/Wadi Shab/Sur/Ras Al Jinz (Drive 260Kms/160Miles)

The Wadi Shab with emerald green water, one of the most famous and amazing wadi (valley) in Oman

Continuing our journey, we embark on a delightful coastal drive that offers breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea on one side and dramatic rocky cliffs on the other. This scenic route allows us to soak in the beauty of Oman's coastal landscape. Our first stop is at the Bimah Sinkhole, a stunning limestone crater with mesmerizing blue-green waters at its base. This natural wonder is a sight to behold, and we have the opportunity to admire its beauty and even take a refreshing swim if so desired. The Fins Beach which follows next is known for its picturesque white sands. Take a leisurely stroll along the shore, feel the soft sand beneath your feet and enjoy the tranquility of this lovely beach.

Oman is renowned for its wadis (desert valleys) and we explore either Wadi Shab or Wadi Tiwi. Wadi Shab is nestled between cliffs and offers a captivating landscape with lush plantations and pools of clear water. A walk along the narrow roads of the wadi will reveal its natural beauty. Alternatively, Wadi Tiwi showcases the charm of traditional Omani villages, with narrow streets lined with quaint houses and a peaceful ambiance.

Qalhat, one of the oldest towns along the trade route in Oman we will have a photo stop at the tomb of the holy lady, Bibi Miriam, which stands proudly on a cliff, offering panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Arriving at the coastal village of Sur, we'll witness the enchanting sight of traditional dhows making their way to various destinations, including as far as Pakistan and India. Sur is also home to many of Oman's affluent individuals, and we'll have the chance to admire their seaside mansions. If permitted, we will visit the Dhow building yard, where skilled workers craft these beautiful vessels. Observing the construction process offers a fascinating glimpse into the traditional craftsmanship of Oman.

Our next stop is the charming village of Ayja, with its quaint houses lining narrow streets. Here, we will feel the   traditional Omani ambiance, with goats and sheep leisurely wandering through the village. However, the climax of the day is at Ras Al Jinz which hosts one of the largest nesting areas for green turtles. Between April and August, over 20,000 turtles make their way from the Indian Ocean to this location to lay eggs. Witnessing this natural phenomenon is truly unforgettable. If you choose, an early morning visit will have the chance to see the turtles hatch from their nests and then make their way back to the ocean. Our route takes us along the rugged shores of central Oman's east coast, offering breathtaking views of the desert hinterland and the unspoiled scenery along the way. As we drive, we will pass by fishing villages and have the opportunity for bird-watching. Taking the winding road up to the picturesque Wadi Bani Khalid, we will be greeted by stunning mountain formations, falaj (small irrigation canals), and lush mango trees.
